Hi George, It is true that you get what you pay for… But to assume no heater core will last more than 2-years is just silly.
The better ones on Rockauto appear well built and value prices, also Speedway Motors, Summit Racing, and Napa have your heater core and all are solid companies to work with.
There was a time 20-plus years ago when the market was flooded with cheap parts for muscle cars that wouldn’t hold up but that stuff has a way of flushing itself out.
I wouldn’t hesitate replacing that heater core in a minute… So the only thing I can see wrong with you ’70 GTO is it’s not parked in my garage.
Wrench Safe, Mark

I live in the south so there are only a couple months when it is too cold to drive without a heater.

Why a 9lb cap? A new radiator or one that’s been repaired properly should hold at least 15lbs pressure. For every pound of pressure, the boiling point gets raised 3 degrees.

Try to get a good quality unit, otherwise you will be changing this every few years. Otherwise go to a good radiator shop and ask them to make one for you.
