Installing a Lokar Hi-Tech throttle cable in a 1935 Chevrolet Master equipped with a GM 383 crate engine, a Holley Street Avenger carburetor, and a Lokar throttle pedal provides smooth, reliable throttle operation while maintaining a clean, professional appearance. Careful planning and precise adjustment are essential to achieve full throttle travel without placing unnecessary stress on the cable or carburetor linkage.

We joined Mark Simpson in the shop as he continues making performance upgrades to our project ‘35 Chevy. Mark begins by securely mounting the Lokar throttle pedal to the firewall according to the manufacturer's specifications. Verify that the pedal moves freely through its full range of motion without contacting the floor, steering column, or interior panels. Next, determine the most direct routing path for the Hi-Tech throttle cable from the pedal to the carburetor, avoiding sharp bends, excessive heat from the exhaust headers, and moving engine components.

Install the cable through the firewall using the supplied bulkhead fitting. Route the stainless braided housing neatly along the engine, securing it with insulated clamps if necessary to prevent movement and abrasion.

Attach the cable housing to the Holley throttle bracket (note: the cable housing may need to be shortened, be certain to check out the video as Mark demonstrates the process) and connect the inner cable to the throttle linkage on the Street Avenger carburetor. With the carburetor at idle, remove excess cable slack and tighten the cable set screw. Have an assistant slowly depress the throttle pedal while verifying that the carburetor reaches wide-open throttle exactly as the pedal reaches the floor. If necessary, readjust the cable until full throttle is achieved without over-travel. Also the Lokar Throttle pedal can be clocked differently to achieve more throttle travel.

Finally, inspect all fasteners, verify that the throttle returns positively to idle using the carburetor return springs, and ensure there is no binding throughout the pedal's travel. A properly installed Lokar Hi-Tech throttle cable delivers crisp throttle response, dependable operation, and complements the high-quality craftsmanship expected in a professionally built 1935 Chevrolet Master street rod.
