Many great classic cars have lost their dashboards to the ravages of a poorly done modern radio installation. Yes, we all love the advantages of a modern audio system from playing your favorite road tune mix on your smartphone, answering phone calls through your cars audio system, getting turn-by-turn navigation instructions played though your cars audio system and so much more. But let’s face it, your car’s dash is not designed for these modern wonders. Thankfully the folks at Custom Autosound have a solution that gives you the convenience of a modern audio system without carving up your dash. We installed a few of their products in the past and couldn’t wait to install their Slidebar Radio into our project 1967 Ford Mustang. If you don’t have a ’67 Mustang, that’s okay as Custom Autosound has a wide variety of models to fit almost any make and model, including secret systems that tuck completely away and are operated by remote.

Custom Autosound’s Slidebar Radio provides enthusiasts with a completely authentic looking classic car or truck stereo without sacrificing the latest in technology. Best of all it will fit in your vehicle’s dash without any modifications required. The Slidebar Radio provides the best of both worlds, a true working slidebar display and a full-featured digital display in the same stereo. Simply slide the bar in the center of the radio to the right and hide the analog slidebar revealing a full-featured digital display underneath. The slidebar is designed with large OEM style push-buttons to compliment the look of your classic car. Its digital display provides seven backlit color options designed to match the color of your dash instrumentation.

When it comes to technology, the Slidebar is designed with the best features available including a USB input for flash drives and a Dock for your iPod. When connected to these devices the radio’s digital display will display artist, song, album and allow song navigation through the radio itself. The slidebar is compatible with our optional BLUKIT which enables bluetooth streaming from your enabled phone or device as well as hands-free mobile calling through the vehicle’s speakers & BLUKIT’s built-in microphone. With 300 watts peak the radio provides plenty of power but additionally contains four pre-outs and one subwoofer out. The Slidebar also comes with Aux-in for optional satellite radio as well as our optional compact CD/DVD player.

The Slidebar radio is designed to fit the aesthetics of a classic car like our 1967 Ford Mustang, so you can enjoy modern technology without sacrificing the vintage appearance of your dashboard. Join Mark and Gary Simpson as they transform this little pony’s audio system into something truly awesome. Only simple hand tools are needed and a couple hours of free time. NOTE: For safety, when working on electrical components, always disconnect the car’s battery to prevent electrical shock or short circuits. Remember that it’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific radio model and your car model. Directions can change from the time this video is produced so in addition to this video review the manufacturers instructions packed with your new radio.

There’s nothing better than taking a long drive in your classic car listening to your favorite tunes, this is one upgrade certain to add more smiles per gallon.
