Without question, the one improvement most classic car enthusiasts make to their cars is improving the braking system. Whether you’re simply converting to a dual reservoir master cylinder, adding power brakes, or doing a disc brake conversion, the prospect of safer and better braking is a great investment in your ride.

On our project 1968 Chevelle SS, we’ve upgraded the power to over 700hp, but with all that power comes the additional need to upgrade the braking system. The car had once been upgraded, but the previous owner failed to do the research in selecting his components, and with the added power we knew the problem would only get worse. To help us select the right parts this time, we contacted our friends at Master Power Brakes, and with their advice we selected a big 1-18” bore master cylinder that comes fully powder-coated to keep it from looking rusty. We also paired that with a dual diaphragm 9” brake master cylinder booster to help us stop on a dime.

Master Power Brakes also included one of their new combination valve kits and all the hardware and supplies needed to complete our installation. An added benefit of this great system is that they’ve done the homework on fit as well. The mounting brackets and design position the master and booster higher, giving you all the room you need when clearing a big block engine with tall valve covers. Follow along as Mark Simpson and Ross Kiehl make this important upgrade that results in a braking system that will quickly bring this classic ride to rest.
